project complete
The completed project consisted of the replacement of existing 5-inch Vitrified Clay Pipes (VCP) with 6-inch Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe. The existing pipes were installed 75 to 100 years ago and have deteriorated to the point that routine inspection and maintenance activities (e.g., remote camera access) became difficult, high risk and/or impossible. The project occured primarily in existing public alleys that have been previously disturbed in residential blocks between the boundaries of Orient Street and Pine Street from E. 3rd Street to E. 4th Street and between Orient Street and Olive Street from E. 4th Street to E. 8th Street. Additional work was completed within the previously disturbed and modified public roadway right-of-way on E. 20th Street from Mulberry Street to Park Avenue. Excavation ranged in depth from 3 feet to 6 feet depending on utility depth and all disturbed work areas were either repaved or replaced in kind. Additional work included repaving alleys and replacing concrete aprons to ensure utility function and drainage.
