Facilities Maintenance
The City of Chico Facilities Maintenance team maintains and supports approximately 500,000 square feet of City buildings and facilities, including the Chico Municipal Center, Chico Municipal Airport terminal, public safety facilities, and other City properties.
Our goal is to provide safe, reliable, efficient, and well-maintained facilities for City employees and the Chico community.

What We Do
🔧 Preventative Maintenance
Our Facilities team provides hands-on maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of City buildings, facilities, equipment, and building systems. Work performed by City staff includes HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors and hardware, painting, minor structural repairs, and general facility maintenance.
Routine inspections and scheduled preventative maintenance help extend equipment life, improve reliability, reduce unexpected failures, and identify problems before they become major repairs.
Facilities staff also provide direct ongoing maintenance of the City's 177-unit Pallet Shelter site, including the individual shelter units, common facilities, and supporting infrastructure.
🌳 Landscaping & Grounds
Facilities oversees landscaping and grounds maintenance at City facilities, including irrigation systems, vegetation management, landscape upkeep, and coordination of specialized landscape services.
🏗️ Capital & Facility Improvements
Facilities manages and supports projects that maintain, modernize, and improve City properties. Projects include roofing, flooring, HVAC and equipment replacements, remodels, accessibility improvements, energy upgrades, and other building and infrastructure improvements.
☀️ Energy Management
Facilities supports the City's energy-management efforts, including approximately 1.9 MW of solar generation capacity.
Our work includes utility management, solar system oversight, energy-use monitoring, energy-efficiency improvements, and projects designed to reduce energy consumption and operating costs while improving the performance of City facilities.
🤝 Contractor & Vendor Services
Facilities manages and coordinates specialized contractors and service providers that supplement the capabilities of City Facilities staff and provide specialized services when needed.
Contracted services include:
- Custodial services
- Pest control
- Fencing
- Electrical services
- Painting
- Landscaping and specialized grounds services
- HVAC and mechanical services
- Plumbing
- Roofing and specialized building services
Facilities provides contract administration, project coordination, scheduling, site access, quality oversight, and logistical support to help ensure contracted work is completed safely and effectively.
📋 Facility Planning
Facilities conducts and coordinates building condition assessments, maintenance planning, project prioritization, and long-term facility improvement planning.
This work helps the City identify future needs, prioritize available resources, and make informed decisions about maintaining and investing in its facilities.
