Lost a Pet?
The Chico Animal Shelter maintains a list of stray animals that have been brought to the shelter, as well as logs of lost and found animals within the Chico area, check these resources frequently and call the shelter at 530-894-5630 for more information. Please fill out a Lost Animal Report, and continue to check in with the shelter at least once a week as you search for your pet. Don't give up! Search early and search often. Animals that are lost and still loose may still be close to home.
Lost and Found Logs
Lost and Found Logs list animals that have been reported to the Chico Animal Shelter as lost or found IN THE CHICO AREA, but are not at the shelter.  Please monitor the Stray Animals List to see if your animal is brought to the shelter.
Lost and Found Logs will be kept active for six months from the date of posting. After six months, they will be removed. Please call the shelter for more information on any pets listed in the Lost and Found Logs.

Important Note: Pets are considered the legal property of their owners. Finding a pet does not entitle the finder to keep, sell or give away the animal, nor does it convey ownership to the finder. If you find a pet, you must actively look for the animal's owner for at least 90 days, and even then the owner still has rights to reclaim their pet under many circumstances.
Penal Code 485 states: "One who finds lost property....without first making REASONABLE and JUST EFFORTS TO FIND THE OWNER AND TO RESTORE THE PROPERTY TO HIM, is guilty of theft."
