The Chico Police Department is a diverse organization comprised of over 140 full-time employees, with an additional 100 police volunteers, including Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Explorers, Chaplains, and Interns.
The Police Community Advisory Board (PCAB) is designed to facilitate and enhance communication between the community and its police department.
The Military Equipment Use Policy is subject to City Council review to determine whether the standards set forth in Assembly Bill 481 have been met, based upon an Annual Military Equipment Use Report.
The Chico Police Department prides itself on the quality of personnel and level of training. We maintain high standards and our training far exceeds minimum standards.
In July 2021, the Chico Police Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program, commonly known as drones, was implemented. Chico Police has partnered with Airdata and Motorola Solutions to provide historical information on our flights.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) worked with partners at CAL FIRE, Butte County Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, and PG&E to map out evacuation zones for the entire county.
Chico residents are encouraged to review new maps.
