2027 Sewer Main Replacement Project

The 2026 and 2027 sewer main replacement projects have been combined into one project: the Vallombrosa and Mountain View Sewer Main Replacement Project. The Project will replace aging and undersized sewer pipes along Vallombrosa Avenue and in the backyards of properties along Mountain View Avenue.

Vallombrosa Avenue: Approximately 1,500 feet of existing concrete and clay sewer pipe will be replaced with new PVC pipe. This work will use traditional open-trench construction, which involves excavating a trench to remove and replace the existing pipe.

Mountain View Avenue: Approximately 1,700 feet of existing 6-inch clay sewer pipe will be replaced with larger 8-inch PVC pipe. The existing pipe is severely deteriorated, with tree roots contributing to blockages. To minimize damage to private backyards and landscaping, the City plans to use pipe bursting, a trenchless construction method that replaces the existing pipe underground while reducing the need for extensive excavation.

The project will improve the long-term reliability of the sewer system in this area of Chico and help prevent future sewer blockages and backups.

Project Timeline

The Project will be advertised for bids in fall 2026. Construction is anticipated to be completed in summer 2027.
